Frequently asked questions by wedding couples looking to hire Marijanel:

Q. Do you use digital? Is your camera a professional camera?

A. Yes, I use digital, and yes my camera is pro, top of the line Sony, and I have many lenses that I change throughout the day depending on the effect I desire. I shoot without my flash whenever possible, using natural light to create my desired effect.

Q. Do you re-touch images?

A. Yes, my work is edited and re-touched. The digital darkroom is is a very important process of photography. When I create the selections of top photos I not only crop and color boost, I adjust skin tone, white balance, remove background distractions, and sometimes add unique digital effects. My photo editing ability has been acquired through hours of experience, study and familiarity of computer editing software.

Q. Do you bring back-up equipment to weddings with you - just in case?

A. Yes, I do bring back up equipment, and that is also stated in my wedding contract for your peace of mind.

Q. If we also hire you to do the reception how long do you stay at the reception?

A. I stay that the reception until the second or third dance, once the dance floor opens up I take shots of everyone having fun and then I say my goodbyes to everyone can party on. I find that most receptions this is about 2 1/2 hours of time or so. My reception package is an additional $500 and it includes it's own album.

Q. How long after the wedding will it take to see our pictures?

A. I create you an online gallery within one week of your wedding. This can be kept private with a password or it can be left open for friends and family to view. I choose my favorite 100 (or so) photos and I edit them immediately and place them on your own gallery so that you can see them during your honeymoon. It takes me between 2-3 weeks to deliver your full package with the album and discs.

Q. How much of a deposit do you require?

A. I take 50% up front (upon booking), and then the second 50% before the wedding date. You can pay this by cash, cheque, money order or by wire transfer, whichever is most convenient for you.

Q. How long should the pictures between the ceremony and the reception take?

A. It's best to have 2 1/2 to 3 hours if we are shooting family, wedding party and romantic in between the ceremony and reception. I request that the couples give me 45 minutes to 1 hour alone with them to get the romantic shots. This time is valuable because you get to spend time together on your wedding day, but also as soon as everyone else leaves us for a bit we are able to get shots that are more comfortable and natural.

Q. Will it just be you or will your husband be along to help out?

A. This depends on the size of your wedding and the length of time I'm shooting. My husband often accompanies me as a second shooter and assistant, but I do have other assistants I use as well. If I'm hired for the reception I always bring a second shooter, if the day is shorter and the wedding is smaller I may come solo. So I guess this question depends on your wedding, and then I make a decision based on how I feel I will capture the best photos for you.

Q. Is it worth it to upgrade to the reception package and why?

A. YES!

There a several good reasons to upgrade to the reception package:

1. You don’t have to rely on friends and family to cover the photos, when they may miss a special event or their photos may not turn out right. You will be so relieved to have the photography taken care of, and so will your guests.
2. The reception is a huge part of your wedding, a lot of expense it put into it and for the $500 it’s well worth it to have the memories recorded professionally
3. Professional reception photos have minimal shadows, expertise behind lighting and editing and blemishes and touch-ups done
4. In the years to come you will cherish having matching albums (a reception album is included) and being able to reminisce over your reception along with your pro-wedding photos
